Mountain View Lodge lies on the western edge of the scenic Texas Hill Country,
offering spectacular views and sunsets. Great for gatherings large or
small. This modern, 2-story (2,500 sq ft) lodge is along
crystal-clear, spring-fed Pulliam creek, which is ideal for swimming,
tubing and snorkeling. A 5-ft deep swimming hole is at the lodge.
Nearby is a large natural spring.
The lodge sits high above the creek with a lovely, panoramic mountain
view. The area is Nueces Canyon, home to many species of birds and
other wildlife. The lodge is located 6 miles north of Camp Wood and 28
miles west of Leakey, near Barksdale on a small ranch. It has central
heat and air conditioning and provides all the comforts of home. There
are large living areas upstairs and downstairs with a southwestern
decor. The main living area is upstairs, which includes a large
kitchen/dining area, a living room, and two bedrooms with king and
queen size beds sleeping 4 people. Downstairs are recreational
accommodations and beds for an additional 9 people. Each level has a
fireplace and a full bath.
Large decks on both levels provide majestic hill country views and a
comfortable setting for relaxation. The fully
equipped kitchen includes a microwave and a dishwasher. The downstairs
deck includes a barbecue grill for outdoor cooking. Also downstairs
are a washer and dryer.
It is not just summertime that's great in the Hill Country. Fall,
spring and even winter offer some of the most wonderful weather days.
Pets ages 1 year or over are welcome.

Things To Do
Other activities in the area include hiking, bird watching, photography,
summer rodeos, swimming and floating the Nueces River, and exploring
the limitless miles of scenic country roads. Two of the most scenic
highways in Texas are Hwy 55 between Barksdale and Rocksprings, and
Hwy 337 between Medina, Vanderpool, Leakey and Camp Wood.
Take the 7-mile drive from Barksdale to Vance along Hwy 335. At one of
the ranches look for giraffe, kangaroo, camel, antelope, zebra and
other exotic wildlife. From Vance, drive another 2.6 miles to a
beautiful overlook of the Nueces. It is this river that carries water
from the Frio and Sabinal to the Gulf of Mexico, and was once the
disputed southern border with Mexico. Consider it the "mother" river
of the Hill Country!
Don't miss "Quince," an old-time, crystal-clear, 15-foot deep Nueces
River swimming hole outside Camp Wood. Or the beautiful Nueces River
dam south of Camp Wood. Or all-you-can-eat at the popular Casa Falcon
in Camp Wood (wear your cowboy hat!). Pick up your small groceries and
gas in Camp Wood, or go 45 minutes south to Uvalde for all your
shopping needs. Garner State Park is 35 miles from the lodge. Lost
Maples Natural Area is a 1-hour drive, San Antonio is 2 hours, and Del
Rio/Mexico is 1.5 hours away.
Visit Camp Wood, which is only 7 miles away. For inner tubes, Kayaks and other rental items, visit Clear Creek Outfitters in Camp Wood.

One Guestbook Comment:
“When we spent a week in March, we had such a wonderful time that it was hard to leave. We had an international student from Hong Kong with us, and when she woke up the next morning (we arrived in the dark), she told us she thought she was dreaming. We all were taken by the view and by the beautiful setting of the Lodge. I have family overseas, and I would love nothing more than to be able to take them to the Lodge whenever they visit. We are counting the days to go back.” Webb family—Laredo, TX
